Rajagiri Hospital soft launches Telemedicine Network
21 Feb 2018

Heralding a new era of quality health facility in Kerala Fr. Johnson Vazhappilly CMI, Executive Director & CEO of Rajagiri Hospital, launched Rajagiri’s Telemedicine Network. Telemedicine is the use of advanced communication technologies to exchange health informations and provide healthcare services across geographic, time, social and cultural barriers. Speaking on the occasion Fr Johnson highlighted that, extending Specialist care to remote and rural areas will be the Network’s primary objective. Rajagiri Hospital is witnessing a steady rise of patients from abroad and from other parts of the country and this network would also help patients stay in touch with their doctor, from anywhere in the world.

The first remote connectivity was established with Medical Trust Hospital, Nedukandam and a tele-consultation was initiated by Dr. Gigy Kuruttukulam Sr. Neurologist at Rajagiri, for a patient whose case summary was presented by Dr. Kariappa in the presence of Dr. Rosamma and Dr. Rojan, owners of Medical Trust Hospital.

Fr. Alex Oruthayappilly CMI, Chief Finance Director said that “Kochi is home to many renowned physicians, but most of their services are limited within the city. Their services and clinical expertise is not available in the remote and hilly areas of Kerala. Wth the advent of Telemedicine patients residing in remote areas will have access to specialist teritiary care services

Mr. Kevin Devasia, AVP for Rajagiri Telemedicine Network, said that a customised Telemedicine software would be provided to patients, for them to stay in touch with their Doctors from wherever they are and thus help them save on travel costs and OP waiting time. This network would also help the connected Regional Primary and Secondary Care Hospitals to offer, higher level of clinical care through virtual support from Specialist doctors. This reduces the need for a patient to be transferred to a tertiary care Hospital for higher treatment and enables patient retention in the connected hospital. Doctors and nurses in remote Hospitals can also benefit from e-health and CME programs, which will be regularly conducted through this network. It becomes cost-effective and remote hospitals can save on cost s spent, in organizing such Training events and Seminars.

Dr. Gigy Kuruttukulam in his closing remarks, informed that Neurology and Stroke medicine will be made available 24*7 over the telemedicine network. Stroke is a growing concern in Kerala and Tele-stroke service will provide a great relief to affiliate hospitals, for emergency management of stroke patients.Fr. Joy Kilikunnel CMI, Director Administration and other Directors were also present during the occasion.
