Dr. Johns Shaji Mathew completed his MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi University and subsequently went on to complete his MS in General Surgery from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. Following this he joined Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences for his MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology & for training in Solid Organ Transplantation.

He gained experience in various aspects of patient care of liver, pancreas, small bowel and multi-visceral transplantation. He was further trained in robotic donor surgeries and was part of the team that has performed over 900 liver transplants including over 150 robotic donor hepatectomies. Dr Johns is a certified da Vinci® Xi robotic surgeon. 

Before joining Rajagiri hospital, he was working as Clinical Assistant Professor in GI, Robotic and Solid Organ Transplant Services at AIMS Kochi since 2017. He is an active researcher involved in multiple clinical research trials and has published more than 15 articles in international journals. He was awarded the prestigious International Liver Transplant Society’s Travel Scholar Award to work in Machine Perfusion of the liver at the Addenbrookes’s hospital, Cambridge University, UK.
