Joint Effort Of Public Private Health System Essential In Curbing COVID 19 In State-Health Minister

“The public private health system prevailing in Kerala has become an imitable model in holding the SARS COV 2 virus. A joint effort by public and private hospitals is of high relevance at this juncture”, said Smt. K K Shailaja, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Social Welfare during the official inaugural ceremony of Rajagiri FOKANA Health card and student enrichment programme.

The Kerala model of health system has been recognised by international media and has made Keralites across the globe proud enough during the pandemic. Kerala is one among the state having high density of population, which increases the chances of spreading of the virus at a faster pace. However, the primary, secondary and tertiary care public-private health facilities in Kerala have put in a joint effort in containing the spread of this virus. The efforts have reduced the mortality rate of COVID affected patients to less than 0.5% which has been even recognised by WHO. According to the latest study in the State, compared to 2019, in 2020 the rate of all cause death has declined by 11% which shows the exemplary model that the Kerala health system has created.

“The COVID prevention and healthcare measures taken under the leadership of Smt. K K Shailaja is really commendable. We consider it as a privilege and honour to be part of those initiatives”, said Rev. Fr. Johnson Vazhappilly CMI, Executive Director & CEO, Rajagiri Hospital. The online event was organised as an initiative to extend Rajagiri health card offering a series of benefits to the FOKANA(Federation of Kerala Associations in North America) members and their dependants. In addition, a student enrichment programme was also launched offering the children of FOKANA members to do training and internship projects at Rajagiri institutions in Kerala.

The online event presided by Shri. Georgy Varghese, President, FOKANA was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Health, Smt K K Shailaja. The programme was honoured with the presence of Executive Director & CEO of Rajagiri Hospital Rev. Fr. Johnson Vazhappilly CMI, FOKANA General Secretary Mr. Sajimon Antony, Rockland County Legislature and Majority Leader Dr. Annie Paul, Medical Superintendent of Rajagiri Hospital Dr. Sunny P Orathel, Dr. Mathew John, FOKANA Trustee Chairman Mr. Philipose Philip, FOKANA International Convention Coordinator Mr. Paul Karukappallil along with other dignitaries from FOKANA.
